Photography Walks

Laneways, gardens, waterfronts, and golden hour light across Melbourne. Camera in hand, you take your time framing the shots that catch your eye, with someone who is happy to wait for them.

What this looks like

What this looks like

Melbourne is a photographer's city. Hosier Lane and its surrounding laneways are covered in street art that changes weekly. The Yarra River from Southbank catches the skyline in reflections at sunset. The Botanic Gardens shift with every season. Brighton Beach has those coloured bathing boxes. The Dandenong Ranges have fern gullies and waterfalls twenty minutes from the suburbs.

Photography walks move at the speed you choose. Some people stop every few metres to shoot details. Others walk for twenty minutes before finding the composition they want. Phone cameras, point-and-shoots and DSLRs are all fine.

Your support worker walks with you, carries gear if needed, spots interesting subjects, and waits while you get the shot right. They help plan routes and keep an eye on your energy levels.

What we include

What we include

Each walk covers route planning, gear, spotting, transport, breaks and reviewing your photos.

Route planning

Your support worker plans walking routes based on what you want to photograph. They plan for street art, architecture, nature or water, and check weather, lighting conditions, and accessibility so you arrive at the right place at the right time.

Gear support

If you're carrying a camera bag, tripod, or extra lenses, your support worker helps manage the gear. They carry what you're not using, swap lenses when asked, and keep everything safe while you shoot.

Creative spotting

Your support worker points out interesting light, textures, and compositions while you walk. They know to wait quietly while you frame a shot and to suggest a different angle when it helps.

Transport and access

Pickup from your home and drop-off after. Your support worker drives to multiple locations if you want to cover different areas, and knows accessible paths and entry points at each spot.

Pacing and breaks

Photography walks can cover a lot of ground. Your support worker monitors energy levels, suggests cafe stops, and adjusts the route if you want to spend longer in one location or cut the walk short.

Photo review

After the walk, your support worker can help you scroll through your shots, pick favourites, and talk about what worked. If you want to print or share your photos, they help with that too.

On the day

On the day

Your support worker picks you up at 4pm because golden hour hits the Yarra around 5:30 this time of year. You've got your camera charged and a spare memory card in your pocket. You start at Flinders Street Station, shooting the clocks and the yellow facade from across the road. Your support worker holds your bag while you crouch low for a different angle. You walk along the river toward Southbank, stopping every few minutes to photograph reflections in the water and the light catching the buildings. At the pedestrian bridge, you set up a longer exposure and your support worker stands to block the wind. By the time you reach the Arts Centre, the sky has turned orange and pink. You take thirty photos of the same view, adjusting settings between each one. Your support worker finds a bench and waits. Afterward, you sit at a cafe on Southbank and scroll through the shots together, marking the best ones. You've got four you're proud of and one that might be worth printing.

Cost, eligibility & getting started

What a photography walk costs, whether it fits your plan, and how to book your first shoot around Melbourne.

What it costs

Pricing follows the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. The amount depends on the type of support and whether your walk falls on a weekday, evening, weekend, or overnight. If you don't have a relevant plan category, you can pay fee-for-service. Cost is always confirmed with you in writing before the experience starts.

Am I eligible?

Photography walks are usually funded under Assistance with Social & Community Participation, a Core Supports category. If your plan includes it, you're covered for laneways, gardens, and golden hour shoots. A support coordinator can help check, and fee-for-service is available if you don't have a current plan.

Where we work

We're based in Thomastown and cover Greater Melbourne, including the northern, western, and eastern suburbs, for laneways, waterfronts, and gardens. Many respite experiences extend into regional Victoria too, and shoots further afield can be planned as an overnight experience.
