Community Event Trips

Moomba on the Yarra, the Lunar New Year festival, White Night, local night markets, Christmas lights in the suburbs. Melbourne's community events with a group who want to be there.

What this looks like

Melbourne's community events, with a group who wants to be there.

Melbourne runs community events all year round, and group event trips bring you into the middle of them. Trips might take you to a night market on a warm evening, Moomba's fireworks over the Yarra, the lanterns at the Lunar New Year festival, or the Christmas lights trail in the suburbs with hot chocolate from a van.

Your support worker monitors what's coming up around Melbourne and organises group trips to the ones that match your interests. They handle transport, plan the timing to avoid the worst crowds, and know the accessible routes through each venue. You arrive, enjoy it, and head home when you're ready.

These trips work for people who want to feel part of their community, people who love the energy of festivals and public celebrations, and anyone who wants to experience Melbourne's culture with a group who shares their excitement.

What we include

Every community event trip is planned around the event schedule.

Supported from pickup to drop-off.

Event scouting & planning

Your support worker tracks Melbourne's event calendar and plans trips to the ones you'll enjoy most. They research timing, accessibility, and the best spots to watch or participate.

Door-to-door transport

Your support worker drives you to the event and home again. For evening events, they know the best drop-off spots and where to park to avoid the post-event rush.

Crowd & sensory management

Community events can be busy and loud. Your support worker plans arrival and departure times to dodge peak crowds, and knows where to find quieter pockets within the event.

Food & festival stalls

Community events are built around food stalls, craft markets, and activities. Your support worker helps you choose from the options, order at busy counters, and find a spot to sit and enjoy it.

Group connection

Event trips bring you together with a small group who share your excitement. Festivals and fireworks give the whole group something to talk about afterwards.

Photos & memories

Your support worker takes photos of the food, the lights, the group and the candid moments, so you have something to share with family.

On the day

A community event trip, start to finish.

Your support worker found a spot on the Yarra bank with a clear view of the Moomba fireworks. You arrive an hour early, lay down a blanket, and watch the crowd fill in around you while the sky is still light. The night market finishes at 10pm but the crowds take an hour to clear, so your support worker parked on a side street two blocks away, and you're in the car and heading home while everyone else is still looking for their ride. The Lunar New Year festival is packed in the main street, but your support worker knows a side lane with food stalls and half the crowd, so you eat dumplings on a bench while the lion dancers pass by a few metres away. The fireworks start and the whole group tilts their heads up at the same time. The colours reflect in the river. Someone next to you says "that one was the best" and you agree, pointing at the sky.

Cost, eligibility & getting started

What a community event trip costs, how it fits your plan, and how to plan your first one.

What it costs

Community event trips are priced under Assistance with Social & Community Participation, a Core Supports category, following the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. What you pay depends on the type of support and whether the event falls on a weekday, evening, weekend or overnight. If this category isn't in your plan, fee-for-service is available. The cost is always confirmed with you in writing before the trip is booked.

Am i eligible?

If your plan includes Assistance with Social & Community Participation, a community event trip can usually be funded through it. A support coordinator can help check what's in your plan, and fee-for-service is available if you don't currently hold a plan.

Where we work

We're based in Thomastown and plan community event trips across Greater Melbourne's northern, western and eastern suburbs, following the festivals, markets and celebrations happening around the city.
