Nature Walks & Hiking
Fern gullies in the Dandenongs, coastal trails on the Mornington Peninsula, and bushland tracks through the You Yangs. Fresh air, good paths, and someone beside you who enjoys being outdoors.
What this looks like
Melbourne sits between mountains, coast, and bushland. The Dandenong Ranges are forty minutes east with towering mountain ash forests, fern-lined creek paths, and waterfalls after rain. The You Yangs are an hour west with granite peaks and views across the plains. The Mornington Peninsula has coastal cliff walks with ocean views. Closer in, Warrandyte and Plenty Gorge have bushland trails you can reach in half an hour.
Walks range from flat, paved paths suitable for wheelchairs to steep rocky trails that take half a day. Your support worker matches the walk to your fitness level, mobility, and preferences. Short loops through local parks are great, and so are longer hikes through national parks.
Your support worker carries water, snacks, and supplies. They manage the pace, watch the weather, and know when to suggest turning back or pushing on. They're someone who enjoys being in nature, so the walk feels like time outdoors with a friend.

What we include
Transport and your support worker are covered. Bring water and snacks, or buy them on the way.
Trail selection
Your support worker picks trails that match your fitness and mobility. They check conditions, recent closures, and weather forecasts. They choose from flat creek walks, moderate bush trails or summit hikes.
Safety and navigation
Your support worker carries a trail map, knows the route, and has phone signal backup. They watch footing on uneven ground, manage creek crossings, and carry a first aid kit.
Pace management
Everyone walks differently. Your support worker matches your pace, suggests rest stops with good views, and adjusts the route length if you want to keep going or head back early.
Transport and supplies
Pickup from your home with water, snacks, sunscreen, and insect repellent packed. Your support worker drives to the trailhead, parks, and has everything ready when you arrive.
Weather awareness
Melbourne weather shifts fast, especially in the ranges. Your support worker checks forecasts, packs rain jackets, and knows when conditions mean rescheduling for a better day.
Nature knowledge
Your support worker points out birds, wildflowers, and landmarks along the way. They share what they know about the area and enjoy the walk as much as you do.
On the day
Your support worker picks you up at 9am with the car packed. Water bottles in the door, trail mix in a zip-lock bag, sunscreen already applied. You drive out to the Dandenongs and park at the Sherbrooke Falls trailhead. The air is cooler under the trees and smells like eucalyptus. You start down the path, stepping over roots and ducking under ferns that arch across the track. Your support worker walks half a step behind on the narrow sections, pointing out a king parrot on a branch overhead. Twenty minutes in, you hear the waterfall before you see it. The falls are running hard after last week's rain and you stand on the viewing platform watching the water hit the rocks below. Your support worker takes a photo of you with the falls behind. You rest on a log, eat trail mix, and watch a lyrebird scratching in the leaf litter ten metres away. The walk back is uphill and slower. You stop twice to catch your breath and your support worker waits without rushing. At the car park, you drive to a cafe in Olinda for a pie and coffee before heading home.

What it costs
Pricing for a supported walk or hike follows the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. The amount depends on the type of support and whether the walk falls on a weekday, evening, weekend or overnight. If you don't have a relevant plan category, you can also pay fee-for-service. Either way, cost is always confirmed with you in writing before the walk starts.
Am i eligible?
Supported nature walks and hikes are usually funded under Assistance with Social & Community Participation, a Core Supports category. If your plan includes this category, a walk or hike can be built around your interests and fitness level. A support coordinator can help check what's available in your plan, and fee-for-service is an option if you don't have a current plan.

We're based in Thomastown and cover trails across Greater Melbourne, from the Dandenong Ranges and You Yangs to Mornington Peninsula coastal walks and closer bushland like Warrandyte.
