Overnight Experiences

Major Event Stays

AFL Grand Final weekend, a sold-out concert at Rod Laver, the Australian Open, the Comedy Festival. Stay overnight in the city and experience the full event, from the warm-up to the final encore.

What this looks like

What this looks like

Big events in Melbourne are easier without a late-night trip home. A major event stay means tickets to the show, a hotel room nearby, and time to enjoy the atmosphere before and after.

Your support worker sorts the tickets, books accommodation walking distance from the venue, and plans the whole experience around you. Pre-event dinner at a nearby restaurant, the event itself with proper accessible seating if needed, and a comfortable place to sleep right around the corner when it's over.

These stays work for people who've been wanting to attend a major event but couldn't manage the logistics alone. The overnight stay removes the time pressure.

What we include

What we include

STA funding covers your accommodation and support for the stay. You pay for event tickets, meals and travel.

Event tickets & accessible seating

We book tickets early and secure accessible seating where needed. Companion cards, priority entry, and quiet viewing areas are all arranged ahead of time. You walk into Rod Laver Arena with your pre-printed tickets. The accessible entry has no queue. You're in your seat fifteen minutes before the first act, watching the stage crew do final checks.

City accommodation

We book a hotel or apartment close to the venue so there's no long trip after the event. Accessible rooms, ground-floor options, and quiet buildings are prioritised. The concert finishes at 10:30pm. You walk three blocks to the hotel with your support worker, still buzzing from the encore. You're in bed by 11 with no traffic to deal with.

Pre-Event dinner

The experience starts before the main event. Your support worker books a restaurant near the venue so you can eat, relax, and build up to the event before heading in. You're eating pizza on Lygon Street two hours before the MCG gates open. The restaurant is busy with other fans in team colours. The energy is building and you haven't even left the table.

Crowd & sensory planning

Big events mean big crowds. Your support worker plans entry and exit times, knows where the quiet spots are, and has a backup plan if it gets overwhelming. The crowd at the MCG is 90,000 strong. Your support worker found an entry gate away from the main crush. You're inside and settled while most people are still queuing at Gate 3.

Transport & logistics

Your support worker drives you to the city, handles parking or drop-off, and manages all the logistics between accommodation, venue, and restaurants. Your support worker drops you at the hotel to settle in, then parks the car at a nearby lot. By the time they're back, you've unpacked and you're ready to head out for dinner.

Morning after

No rushing home. The next morning you have breakfast at the hotel or a nearby cafe, check out, and head home when you're ready. Sunday morning. You're eating bacon and eggs in the hotel restaurant, still talking about last night's game. Your support worker pulls up the highlights on their phone while you finish your coffee.

Cost, eligibility & getting started

Cost, eligibility & getting started

Major event stays are funded through Short Term Accommodation, with fee-for-service as the alternative.

What it costs

Major event stays are priced under NDIS Short Term Accommodation, following the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. The cost depends on the type of support and whether the stay is on a weekday, evening, weekend or overnight. If you don't have a relevant plan category, fee-for-service is available. You'll always see the full cost in writing before the stay is booked.

Am I eligible?

If Short Term Accommodation (STA) is in your plan, commonly used for up to 28 days a year, it can usually cover an overnight stay around a concert, game or festival. If you're not sure whether STA is included, a support coordinator can check, or fee-for-service works if you don't have a current plan.

Where we work

We're based in Thomastown and cover major events across Greater Melbourne, from the MCG and Rod Laver Arena to venues in the northern, western and eastern suburbs. Since these are overnight stays, we can also travel to events further afield in regional Victoria.
